It’s so easy to get caught up in the every day circumstances we see that we often lose sight of the big picture.

How often do we forget that we all have a right and a responsibility to be healthy?  It seems like we always have a reason or excuse for why we can’t achieve something.  I wish we could all realize that we all have the opportunity to be healthy no matter what are circumstances are.

So you start exercising and suddenly your shoulder starts hurting.  It’s a horrible thing and should be looked at by a doctor, but it doesn’t give you an excuse to quit exercising.  Surely your legs still work.  Sure, you can’t do everything you did before, but you aren’t completely disabled either.  It is your responsibility to step up and find a way to work through it.  If you hurt your knee working out, can you still workout in the swimming pool?  Who says you have to stop because one joint isn’t responding the way it was suppose to.

Can you imagine if corporations worked this way?  I’m sorry, Fred is out sick today so we had to close the company down until he gets better.  Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it?  Yet when it comes to our health, we look for any reason to call it quits.  You have to look at the big picture if you ever want to get healthy.

You may not realize this, but you aren’t the only one who faces obstacles.  In fact, if you ask the people you see who are working out all the time, you will probably find that they have overcome obstacles you could never imagine.  Personally, I’ve had severe back pain multiple times in my life, knee pain, shoulder pain, whiplash, and strained muscles.  Did I have good excuses to quit or give up?  I guess so, depending on who you ask, but personally, I don’t think so.

If you are striving to accomplish something, you will have to learn to overcome obstacles.  You did this when you were in school and you do this in every day life as well.  It’s part of growing, getting better, and achieving more.  The obstacles will make you stronger, not weaker.  So when you face an obstacle that seems to put you out of commission, see if there is a way around it.  You don’t have to give up….you do have a choice.  I’ve heard the phrase, Choose Your Attitude.  No matter how things seem, when you focus on the big picture, the possibilities are endless.
