Thoughts on why trying to force yourself to follow a particular path to success doesn’t work.
You have direct control over your destiny. You can get into a mindset where you limit your ability to achieve your full potential, or you can live the life you were made to achieve. What happens many times is we force our life to follow the path we expect it to take. We have this idea of what we are going to do or what we can do, and we force ourselves to follow that path. The problem is, that’s not what life is about.
Life is going to keep you guessing, and you have to learn to go with the flow. You can’t decide you are going to get healthy and expect it to turn out the way you envision. If you do, then you failed. The beauty of striving to achieve or accomplish something is that it won’t go as smoothly as you expect. You will have some things come up that you didn’t anticipate. You will find some things along the way that throw you off track and force you to adjust. These are growth opportunities. Sure you can plow through these circumstances, but it’s important to learn from them along the way. What you learn from your various experiences, failures, and successes will shape your future. It will make you a stronger individual and eventually make you more successful. So when circumstances come up that seem to be too much for you, step back, take a look, and try to re-evaluate and learn from it. Odds are, it will make you stronger.
The more often you give in to temptation, the more likely you are to give in to it in the future. But as you resist temptation, practice that resistance, and grow from it, you will grow stronger to resist it in the future. Sure it’s not easy at times, but your decisions will have a big impact on your ability to either resist or give in to temptation.
Don’t be so adamant about following the path you think is right for you. Instead, focus on where you are going, and overcome the goals as you face them. You might slip and fall sometimes, but if you learn from it, you will win in the end.
