I often meet people who have a hard time staying on their workout and eating plan when they are on vacation. I want to share the vacation my wife and I just got back from that was a fitness vacation…not a vacation from fitness.
My wife and I love to stay active. When we book our hotels we are always looking for places that have bikes or bike trails, fitness centers, tennis courts, walking trails, etc… This weekend we stayed close to home and traveled to the South Shore Harbour Resort. While the hotel was great (and the breakfast was amazing), the best part was having access to the South Shore Harbour Fitness Center for just $5 a day. To us, this was a dream come true. There were so many activities we were able to do, and this gym had everything.
- Tennis Courts (indoor and outdoor)
- Spin (indoor cycling) classes
- Full weight room
- Basketball court
- And several other things that we didn’t get a chance to do
The point is, we were able to make exercise part of our vacation. We spent 1 or 2 hours a day playing tennis, enjoyed the amazing scenery and the (pleasently surprising) cool temperatures. One morning I even fit in a spin class. After our exercise we had the rest of the day to go out and explore the Keemah area.
I know the common trend is to go on vacation to relax, and often over eat. But I want to encourage you to try something different. Plan a vacation where you can be active and exercise as well. You won’t miss out on the sites, I promise you. You will come back from vacation energized, feeling great, and hopefully ready to get in to your own routine at home.
