A new device is planned to hit the market a year from now that has a goal of helping you achieve your own goals. The AIRO device is a bracelet that helps you monitor your exercise, sleep, stress, and even your nutrition.
What does the AIRO do?
You may be familiar with devices like the Jawbone UP that monitors your basic activity and sleep. But as technology continues to advance, I expect that we will continue to see more and more advanced features in devices that are geared towards those who are focused on their health. One such device is the AIRO. It has a basic activity tracker, but it also detects your nervous system and analyzes your sleep patterns which helps it determine your stress level. The idea for the device is to let you know if you need to take a couple of days off from your workout if your body is under a higher amount of stress.
How does the AIRO monitor your nutrition?
What I find most interesting about this device is the claim that it will monitor your nutrition via an embedded spectrometer. They claim the device will be able to detect if you are consuming a carbohydrate, protein, or fat by analyzing the light that passes through your blood. Through this they believe they can get a snapshot of your nutritional intake without having to manually log your food. It’s an interesting concept, and if it works, it will be a fascinating device that could help those that struggle with logging their food.
What do I need to know about the AIRO?
The first thing to know about this device is that it is still a prototype at this point. There will not be an actual device you can hold until Fall of next year. So if you decide to preorder ($149 now, and $199 after they sell 5,000 units), you are taking the company at their word that this device will work like they say it will. At this time it is planned to integrate with your iphone and android device in order to give you feedback from the device (since there is no physical screen on the actual device).
It’s an interesting concept, so I’m curious to see what happens with it over the next year. To learn more or pre-order your own, you can visit their website at getairo.com
