Sometimes things don't go as planned. You think you are doing everything right, but when you look at the results, they just didn't turn out like you expected.
If this is you right now, don't feel bad. You can do the best of your ability some times, but it may not turn out like you expected. You've exercised, changed your eating habits, and even cut back on the things you love, only to be disappointed that you aren't losing the weight like you hoped.
This month I celebrated 10 years of not taking a single sick day from work. The gym is the number two place to get sick, behind hospitals (believe it or not). But over the years I've come to know when I am about to get sick. I adjust my sleep, increase my vitamin C and water intake, and for the last 10 years have been able to beat it, until Friday. I knew it was coming, and I knew my routine, but I couldn't beat it this time. So to celebrate 10 years, I had to take a sick day. Pretty ironic how it worked out. Since then I've gotten great advice from a lot of people. And being in unfamiliar territory, I wanted to try it all. It doesn't work that way though, does it? I had to choose 1 or 2 compatible methods that worked and stick with them. If I chose to do everything I heard, I probably would be so drugged up, I wouldn't be able to tell you where I was. I did end up talking to a pharmacist and a doctor because they are the professionals. But I was able to use the recommendations of my friends and clients gave me to make my recovery go faster. Am I 100% back to normal? Not yet, but I am on my way back to 100%. I'm very thankful for having wonderful friend, clients, and medical professionals that could help me.
Weight loss is like that. You will hear hundreds of ways to lose weight, and there are a lot of great ideas. But there are 2 things you need to know about them:
1. Not all ways work for all people. Because each individual is different, we recommend different things for different people. Applying one approach to everyone would result in mediocre results. The same thing that works for your neighbor won't work for you. Sure there are similar elements, but they have to be customized to fit your life.
2. You have to stick to a plan and give it time to work. Once we decide which plan works best for someone, we watch and tweak all along the way. If we know we are the right track, we analyze their calorie intake and calorie expenditure, macronutrient percentages, etc... And as the person goes along in their plan we adjust their workout or their diet. It's the things that go on behind the scenes, but if you are trying to do this on your own, you have to realize that it's an important element. It's a fact that as you lose or gain weight, your program has to be adjusted if you want to continue to see results.
